Hey guys! I'm not quite sure where I should post this, but seeing as they are quotes from Sid's book from Sid himself, I figured this would be the thread. If it's not correct, let me know where to move it. I finally read the book that chronicled Sid's first year in the NHL and found a few quotes that answer questions that the fans sometimes have. Like why he doesn't change his wardrobe hardly ever!
"For me, a lot of stuff wasn't easy. It wasn't like I had to work five hours a day to get things, but nothing was really given to me. I was treated well as a kid. I got a new pair of skates for Christmas, but I got what I needed and not a lot more. When it came to hockey, I'd get new skates and a stick. But I learned that you get what you need and not so much what you want. My parents instilled in me that you don't need everything you see. You work hard for what you get, and a lot of things in life don't come easy. That was a lesson I got from my parents."
"It's hard for me to spend it, to be honest. I can't reason with myself to spend a lot. I got my car . I got my parents a car and big television so they could watch some games. I got some clothes, because playing in the NHL, you're a professional, and part of it is about wanting to look good and set a good example when you're on the road and going to games. When everyone's looking at you, you want to feel confident. But outside of that, I don't spend money on anything I don't need. A lot of guys get into hobbies, but that's not me. Having money hasn't made me more inclined to get stuff."
....I asked if he spied the signs in the crowd. His eyebrows shot up and he laughed nervously. "Those aren't girlfriend material! I don't think I'm going to meet any of my girlfriends through signs in a hockey arena," he said, turning sombre. "I'm a pretty picky guy. I'm picky about everything. Especially when it comes to something that affects your life. It's like living with a family or choosing your friends. You want someone who complements you well. You want to be around good people and someone who influences you the right way I don't want to get married at eighteen. If you're a young person at a job, you don't want to be preoccupied with other things. I'm preoccupied with hockey. I'm not saying I don't want to meet girls. If the right one came along, I'd do it, but if it's going to get me away from what I'm doing here, it's not the right time."
