Hello, women of HockeyChickChat. I, a male, have recently stumbled upon this website. I find myself in a state of deep confusion. I get it. Sidney Crosby is a big deal. The dude has won everything there is to win in the game of hockey, and is certainly one of the top 5 players in the history of the game. I myself am a huge fan of Sid, and of the Penguins. It would make me very happy if they were to take home another cup this year, and if Sid were to win his first Conn Smythe Trophy. It makes sense that the best player in the world would be the most popular guy on this site. Women have a tendency to gravitate towards alpha males and there's nothing wrong with that. But I look around the website and see you girls only focusing on his looks rather than his passing, goal scoring, puck possession, etc. So I guess the craze is not driven by talent. Almost every Crosby thread has 100,000s of views, while other taller, stronger players like Toews and Seguin are lucky to crack 1,000 views on a given post. Crosby looks like a regular guy compared to many others in the league, and yet his sex appeal is off the charts. My question is: Why does the average height, boring personality, awkward, camera shy Crosby have so much more sex appeal than everyone else in the NHL? Attachments:

Jeff, While I can't really tell you why someone is attractive to me over others, I can tell you that most of us migrated here from a different Crosby board, which is why it seems like we are all about him. Fans of other players don't really seem interested in posting about them, and that's okay. Maybe one day.
And while it seems like all we do is fawn over him, if you want to talk actual hockey with us, you'll have to join the game day chats when we chat during the game live. My apologies if you lurked in there today, not so much hockey talk but usually there's quite a bit.
So I really don't know what to tell you. It's hard going elsewhere as a fan of Sid without getting trolled, so it's nice to have our own space to say whatever we want.

Hi Jeff.
First thanks for clarifying your sex, as a lowly female i was confused by its ambiguous nature and appreciate you taking the time to ensure that we understood you have a penis and therefore we should take you seriously. I'm confused as well but unlike you it's not by the concept of a fan board but by why you seem to think you're owed some kind of explanation as to the board, how it operates and why it exists. We are here because we like Sid , his looks AND his talent and if you don't see that reflected as you skimmed through the board you might have tried to strike up a conversation with one one of the members in a non sexist and condescending way. Do you go to reddit or Puck Daddy and question their fandom? What makes you think its ok to do that here? Was it the word chick in the title? Mostly though i'm saddened by the constant reminder of the blatant sexism that still exists. As women we are doing our best to put an end to it by refusing to have sex with those like you in hopes your sad, meek bloodlines will die out - which i guess explains your bitterness as well as your abundance of spare time.
So here's some advice that hopefully you'll comprehend: step away from the keyboard, climb up out of your parents basement, smack on some proactiv and go find yourself someone who gives a flying fuck what you think about anything - cause you're not gonna find anyone who does here.
sincerely, All women ever

So, I'm going to be brutally honest and probably piss a lot of people off. But, that's my nature. As a long time member of this board, and a female, since we are pointing these things out, I have watched hockey for many, many, many years. No, I'm not telling you how many. I have seen many players come and go and Sidney Crosby is a very unique player. It amazes me when people hate on him because I just want to say, "sit back and enjoy it because you won't see it again." I can appreciate players such as Toews and Seguin but none can do the things that Sid can do. It's more than scoring goals and hitting people. His strength and skill is simply amazing. You can use many words to describe his play. Something someone said once, and I can't remember who, resonates with me, " he is a star who plays like a fourth liner". And he is. He is so determined that it is scary. I could go on and on... We all know this. However with that being said, to me, that is what is sexy as fuck. That's what is attractive about him. And why should I have to justify that? Why, as women, do we constantly have to defend the fact that we find an athlete hot? And then be ridiculed and dismissed because of it? It shouldn't matter. Yes, there are some chicks on this board that are fucking annoying and when you say one negative thing about Sid they freak out. Fuck them. Who cares. But if I can have an intelligent and knowledgable conversation about a hockey game and then at the end say, "God damn he's hot. I'd fuck him", why does that make me a dumb puck bunny? Many men have tried to do that to me and all of them, like the old man at the bar on Saturday, always end up apologizing to me when they realize I have tits and I can understand hockey. Serious question, has a man ever been asked why he thinks, let's say, Hillary Knight, is hot. No. Not many probably do because for as talented and amazing as she is, she isn't a bleach blonde with big tits posing on a beach in her bikini. Wait.....am I passing judgement now? It sucks doesn't it.

Hey Jeff if you want a serious discussion of hockey... then lets discuss hockey. I'd say there is a large percentage of us on this board who started watching hockey because of Sidney's adorkableness. We have watched and learned in a "safe" unjudgemental environment. WE stayed for the hockey and the humble, hard work of Sidney because that is his "Appeal".

Never did I imply that anyone on this board was a puck bunny. I simply made an accurate observation that the highest traffic Crosby threads do not contain footage of his on ice play. For the record, I have seen your live chat discussions regarding on ice play. I was referring to threads.
To Im: I wish you the very best of luck in finding a psychiatrist who can fix your deep seated issues.
To everyone else: Thank you for answering my question. I also appreciate Sid for his incredible drive and determination. I admit that Lemieux and Gretzky were more dominant in their respective eras, but their natural talents were far greater than Crosby's. Hell I think many of you would agree that even Geno is more naturally skilled than Crosby.
I have always favoured Sid over more skilled players for the simple reason that he plays every game as though his life depended on it, and it's good to hear that you guys agree. There's no question that he's a once-in-a-lifetime hockey player.

my goodness why would anyone think you were calling them a puck bunny when you say we care more about his looks than passing scoring etc? Yeah we totally misunderstood. Increfible how we didn't fawn over your post and accept you with open arms. i can't imagine what kind of s response you imagined you deserved. the threads you mentioned are picture threads and the most popular one is from summer - not a whole lot of hockey discussion talk happens then. Our talk happens in chats and threads you can't see- not that again we owe you an explanation.

I do agree Jeff that there are players with more natural talent. Not knocking Sid at all but you are correct in saying that and it is simply amazing the work ethic he has. He will never give up on something. I remember after, I think it was his first season, he sucked at faceoffs and practiced all summer on taking faceoffs and came back completely dominate. It's shit like that you don't see much in athletes which also add to his appeal. He doesn't give the aire of entitlement that most athletes have.

Jeff, I think a lot of us talk about hockey, just not here. I think the chats (at least the ones I've been a part of) tend to be more social than hockey talk, but that's what this site offers. There are other sites that offer more hockey focused talk and I know that many people visit those sites as well. The nice thing is that we can go to multiple sites that each offer different things. Also, people always assume shy, and awkward are negative. I beg to differ. To me that's part of the appeal

Sidney is the reason I started watching hockey yes, I thought he was handsome (still do) and watching him made me a fan of the sport in general. I love that he's different from other athletes, but what appeals to me, may not appeal to you. To each his own.
Plus I love this site I can come and see pics and go all heart eyes over a guy I find super attractive. It's not everyone's cup of tea but you also don't have to come here or comeback. Plus I think the ladies that run the site are great/welcoming and the users here are respectful and fun.

Jeff, i don't really understand your confusion. But me and the fellow women of this board will try and explain it for you as simple as we can! the reason why women gravitate towards this board, is because it's a safe space where we can discuss hockey AND cute players without having to prove to the men around us that we are in fact Real Hockey Fans. We enjoy the sport, but we also find some of the players attractive! it's normal, happens every day. At least here, we won't be second guessed as fans. I know how uncomfortable men get when i express my opinion about the looks of hockey players, they get weirdly offended for some reason? maybe you, as a man, can answer that for me? maybe it does something to your egos, that the women around you rather go for hockey players they probably doesn't have a chance with, then looking your way? idk, maybe you can shed some light on that?
"Women have a tendency to gravitate towards alpha males and there's nothing wrong with that." - lol, are you for real?? have you read this in a textbook or something? "Women - for dummies"
You obviously have been drawn to this board, and you're obviously deeply concerned enough to reach out to us. I hope we've been able to shed some light on your concern.

I've often wondered why I have a crush on Sid. Normally I'll find a celebrity good looking but they don't hold my interest for very long, a few months and the next handsome face replaces the last one as if he never existed.
Is he physically attractive, yes, but that isn't enough for me.
In all the responses here two things are missing:
Sid has been observed to treat women with respect. From speaking to female reporters with the same professionalism as he speaks to male reporters through to ensuring that the little girls in his hockey school are addressed with language that doesn't make them feel second or excluded.
And he seems like a genuinely nice guy. Because in my experience people (regardless of gender) who have a competitive drive, ambition, and strong desire to achieve their goals usually act as if it's acceptable behaviour to step on people in order to get where they want to be. Sid actually seems truly concerned that he isn't stepping on others to achieve his goals, he wants to be the best by raising himself up not putting others down.
And this turns me on.
