So it's official! Geno is a Pen for the next 8 years. He moves past Sid on the team's money chart. New contract starts the season after next at $9.5/year.

Rossi tweeted that Sid actually makes more than gino cause Sid gets 10.6 million for first 9 years but only counts as 8.7 against the salary cap! Oh well who cares! It's only money. Wee lamb is here to stay!!

Crosby is still the highest-paid Penguin during the years of Malkin's new contract. What I do not understand is how Malkin's entire $9,500,000 yearly salary is counted toward the cap hit but Crosby's isn't (it stays at $8,700,000). Because Sid's contract is longer and was under the old CBA which allowed the drop off years where he's paid 1-3 mil a year. Under the new CBA, each year has to be within a certain % and those years where a player is paid basically nothing is not allowed. Therefore, all of Sid's salary does count towards the cap, but he has those extra years at the end (where he might already be retired) that bring the overall cap hit down. Hope I explained that okay

Geno's agent was on the Fan today. He said one of the reasons Geno wanted to stay was because of Sid. Listen here

I've gained so much respect for Geno throughout these playoffs and this contract signing. THIS is how you show the team that you care more about staying and winning than money. If Tanger doesn't do the same, it will speak volumes just based on the examples that Sid and Geno have set by coming to terms with the team relatively quickly.

Lex, Josh Yohe mentioned on Twitter that if anyone doubted Geno´s feelings for this organization, you should have seen his face when they lost the 4th game against the Bruins.

I read that too, along with his comments after the game taking personal responsibility for not helping the team win. Even though he was a beast during that series, but he was still hard on himself. Definitely shows that he cares.

just glad Geno stays Nice to see that he's more interested in winning rather than making big bucks.. if he had tested the market, he could have easily get around 11M/yr ... btw, have you seen this? It cracked me up yesterday
