Right - that's the whole team! You always hate the sneaky players till they're on your team. Cookie, asham, Colby Armstrong is a weasel when you're playing against him. Maybe well change our minds seeing them play during the Olympics.

He was one guy from bruins that I hated! Along with Lucic!! Me too. Can't. Stand. Marchand. And Lucic is a close second. I will never root for them. Ever.

lm, thanks for posting the LONE SURVIVOR trailer. I didn't know that was one of Sid's favorite books. That book has inspired me and other members of my family. It is a great and heart wrenching read.

lm, thanks for posting the LONE SURVIVOR trailer. I didn't know that was one of Sid's favorite books. That book has inspired me and other members of my family. It is a great and heart wrenching read. Another one of his current favourite books is Unbroken which chronicles of the life of Louis Zamperini, an Olympic runner who was taken prisoner by Japanese forces during World War II. It's a great read and is being turned into a movie directed by Angelina Jolie.

Article interviewing the 4 people in line at the DMV so stupid they don't understand why having Sid stand in line for an hour for his licence might be a bad idea. The real questions is : How did these people pass a driving test?!! Penguins' Crosby draws attention at DMV Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby caused a brief stir when he walked into a Pittsburgh-area DMV on Friday. Article Linklink

Comments section responses from stupid article posted above.
I hated that this article insinuates that Crosby does not have respect or time for fans. I happened to be at a hotel this past season on a Penguin off day during a road trip. The players were relaxing by the pool and people repeatedly came up to Crosby for photos and autographs and he made sure to get up from his chair and interact with each fan. No other Penguin was approached all afternoon and Sid was the perfect gentleman to each request. You would have to experience it to believe it from nervous 8 years olds looking for their first autograph to fully dressed wedding parties looking for a celebrity photo. It was non-stop and it was in another state far away from Pittsburgh. I came away from that afternoon with a new level of respect for him.
Chris Deutsch · Acount Manager at Adobe What is the point of this article exactly? Because it looks to me like someone is simply trying to stir up negativity against Sid. My wife and I have been in the same restaurant as Sid twice - three years apart. On BOTH occasions he was polite and signed whatever we asked him to. We are lucky that we have Sid to root for in Pittsburgh - there are far more entitled athletes out there. Sid isn't one of them. The guy is polite, reasonably approachable, and NEVER makes negative headlines off the ice. Stop trying to create problems where none exist.
Jerry Lynch · Top Commenter · Clarion University of Pennsylvania While I probably would not like someone getting preferential treatment, I certainly understand the reasoning behind getting such people in & out quickly so as to avoid the mob scene that will likely result if the guy stands in line with everyone else. Where I live now, or in even Los Angeles where there are large numbers of Filipinos, if Manny Pacquiao came in to do normal business there would be 5000 people crowding the place within 30 minutes. I would rather see him in & out quickly rather than fight that kind of mob for hours. Reply · 3 · Like · Follow Post · 12 hours ago
Ben Smith · Top Commenter · Norfolk, Virginia I remember several years ago Big Ben went shopping at a Home Depot - same scenario, people calling and texting friends - within 15 minutes it was a flash mob, and HD had to close their doors. Although the appearance of preferential treatment is obvious, I believe them when DMV says they just want to get Sid in and get him out. Although, if they knew in advance, I think they would have been better off to make arrangements for an after hours appointment - then none of us would be reading about this...... What whiners. I personally experienced what happens in ths town when a hockey star is out in public. People call others on their cells and very quickly there is a mob scene. If those people who are complaining want to wait even longer, just make Sid Crosby hang around the PennDOT office waiting his turn like a "normal person." Guess what? He isn't a normal person; he also isn't better than a normal person as these people imply,, but he is more famous. Quit complaining. That's life.

I'm all over this DMV story!! The truth comes out - this guy should work for the Gazette.
Tyler • 4 hours ago − I was at the DMV yesterday when Sid arrived. Before he even arrived the DMV was running really, really fast and efficient surprisingly. Then, when he did arrive they took him into a back room. He was back there probably for twenty minutes before he came out and took his picture, the only different thing he had done was that he was surrounded by Penguins Equipment Staff and two DMV employees. He took his picture, shook the hands of every DMV employee, and went back to the back room before leaving.
He didn't cut in any lines, he didn't cheat ahead, and these people are just looking for their fifteen minutes of fame. People will try to spin ANYTHING these days. We were thinking about taking a picture before we were warned that it was a federal offense to take a picture in any workplace that is run by the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. So, I wish I could say "I have proof that I was there", but I have just as much proof as the idiots that were there saying this.

I am so with you lm.
I just don't know what the post gazette was thinking when they decided to go out of their way to write and publish this story. They had to be of the opinion that their readership would want to read a story that makes Sid look bad. Are the press or public in Pittsburgh secretly petty and spiteful that one of the best citizens of the city isn't originally from Pittsburgh (or something like that) so they have to stab him in the back when he's not around?
Maybe they need to stop and think of how different the city would look if Sid hadn't signed Pittsburgh? What if he had demanded the penguins trade his signing rights to a team that wasn't in financial trouble? The penguins would probably have been sold and moved to another city, which means not only would there be one less professional sports team in that sports-crazy city but the consol energy center would never have been built. Even if someone didn't care about hockey, consol isn't just a hockey arena it's the venue that the city needed to attract big-name musicians to add the city to their concert tours. It can serve as a convention centre or trade-show venue during the off season. All that brings money into the Pittsburgh economy and creates a big increase in the quality of life index experienced by the people in the city. Quality of life is one of the factors that companies use to decide between cities in a region to open business centres or new headquarters which then creates new jobs in that city (higher paying desirable jobs, not minimum wage jobs). There are hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars that have come into Pittsburgh's economy that can be traced back either directly or indirectly to Sid.
If the Pittsburgh press can go out of their way to stir up negativity about Sid, the city doesn't deserve to have him.

Ok. I am NOT happy about the whole DMV article and neither is 99% of Pittsburgh. But please don't say that we don't deserve Sid. This is one article by one asshole and everyone in the city is up in arms about it. I am very proud to be a Pittsburgher and we are very hard working, blue collar city that love and respect our Athletes that show love and respect for our city like Sidney does. Because one reporter is trying to make a name for herself and two bitter old women, please do not lump the rest of Pittsburgh into that. Sid has done so much for this city but do not forget, it is Mario who has kept this team in this city well before Sid came here. As hockey fans, we struggled for years and Mario pulled us out of bankruptcy and complete disbandment. Getting Sid was a blessing and we appreciate everything he has done for the development of youth hockey in this area. Yes, it helped to develop Consol, but we would've gotten it anyway. Mario is a shrewd businessman and with Ron Burkle by his side, it would have gotten done.
Sidney is a blessing to this city and we appreciate everything about him. In the same respect, the city is good for him too. It's a hard working city that Sidney thrives in. It keeps people grounded because it constantly reminds you of where you come from and the hard work it takes to succeed and continue to succeed. It is a comfortable city there is no pretentious here. Many people move here and stay because of it. It's a good place to raise a family, have friends, and live a good life. Mario stayed, Bob Eerey stayed, Pierre LaRouche stayed, recchi stayed, as have many, many others and now we are seeing guys like Dupuis stay for all of those reasons.
Please just keep in mind that one person who makes a rude and ignorant comment or writes a stupid article does not represent an entire city.

Bella, if I upset you by saying that Pittsburgh doesn’t deserve Sid then I would like to offer my most heartfelt apologies, I am truly sorry.
I am glad to hear that the local consensus is opposed to the content of that article and that he is considered a blessing by the city.
Despite my opinion as to what the future of hockey might have been in Pittsburgh post 2003/4 lockout I am glad that hockey stayed in Pittsburgh. My loyalty is to hockey as a sport, I have no long-standing loyalty to any team and I shamelessly admit to jumping on whatever bandwagon looks like fun. But that doesn't stop me from having lingering soft spots for some teams even when they aren't producing exciting hockey and Pittsburgh is one of those teams.

No problem Cat! I just get really upset when people think that hockey didn't exist in Pittsburgh before Sid. Not that I think you did. Hockey was introduced to Pittsburgh in the late 1800's and we had our first hockey team in the 1920's called the Pittsburgh Pirates. Just because we weren't one of the original six in the NHL doesn't t mean that Pittsburgh has not been significant in hockey history. No, we may not have the history of Montreal, but it has a long standing history here. Trust me, there we years we struggled and struggled hard, but we were luck enough to get Mario and then Sid and trust me, the city is forever grateful. Not just because of their ability to play hockey, but because of what they do for the city. There are always one or two people that are just assholes. I try not to let them get to me but its hard at times Really hard. Shit, I made a pens fangirl cry at a Pens game one time when she called Sid a pussy because of the concussion. I went off on her and by the end of my rant made her apologize to the fans sitting around us for being a rude and ignorant person. I realize that those people aren't true fans and we should pay them no mind. Everyone thinks that that article is a load of shit and is actually becoming a joke here in the city. But, I do think that the Post- Gazette needs to issue and apology for the article. It was completely ridiculous.

I agree, they should not only issue an apology but also a retraction, I wouldn't be surprised if a lawyer would consider that article civil libel. My emotional reaction to the story was that it's easy to pick on an outsider and Sid is not a native Pittsburgher.
On reflection, I wonder if they chose to use Sid when they published this story because they knew they would get a lot of re-prints of the story from other media agencies and therefore make a lot of money from all those re-prints. Any story about Sid has a high potential of getting picked up by all North American sports media as well as general publications that have a bias towards sports reporting and of course Canadian media regardless of reporting bias. I don't think anyone is so naive as to think that that story would have drawn the same level of attention or made the same amount of money for the Post Gazette if they had chosen someone like Taylor Swift as their celebrity example.

For sure they used Sid to sell. I don't think they picked on him because he's an outsider. Pittsburgh isn't like that. Pittsburgh has really embraced Sid because of his work ethic, commitment and drive. i think they used him because of his status and solely on that. In Fact, we make more fun of yinzers than we do of other people. Lol!
I will say this, that story had to go through an editor and whoever let that story run should be in a boatload of trouble. If I were the Pens, I would start making the Post Gazette's life at the rink and in the locker room horrible to send a message. Nothing too terrible but just to let them know, you fuck with our players, your job will start to suck. They did it with Rossi and he changed his tune.....well....a little. Can't change being a douche.

According to Mark Madden (I know, but he does have pretty decent sources) the woman who tipped the PG off is the wife of an editor there. She was at the DMV, saw Sid get ushered to the back, called hubby and the rest is history. Really unbelievable. I think it makes the PG look even worse because I think it comes across as personal payback because the editor's wife was in a tizzy.
BTW, I've also seen this information elsewhere on message boards, so it's out there somehow.

I wrote a comment on the original article basically saying that i heard the source for the "story" was the editors wife and that it must be nice to have all your grievances go straight to the front of the line and be reported as news. Strangely it was deleted. i guess they only believe in free speech if they're slandering Sid.
