Attention:
Ok, so I have a lot of spare time and I like organizing. So after deciding to be a very active participant here at HCC, I approached our fearless leader with an idea to make the board a little less cluttered. I know I had trouble finding out if certain players were updated. And the main page was really long. As of tonight, I'm working to reorganize the board to make it easier to navigate.
The teams will be listed alphabetically(expect the Pens, they will stay at the top of the Eastern Conference list) under their conference, and then new boards and threads will be added. Such as an all players board for those players not listed individually. A News board will also be added to each team.
I really hope not to upset anyone over the changes. It really will be a lot easier to navigate.
PS-Yes, I really do need to get out of my apartment more often.

I'm a big believer in put up or shut up, and I know I would make a terrible admin/moderator because I wouldn't actually do anything to help with the board. But I don't think I like the change.
I know I'm probably just rankling at the change/newness, but the team links are tiny, really tiny and on my phone even smaller. Some of us are old and need glasses and aren't friends with technology.
Also, I liked the ability to customize the board by expanding/collapsing thread groups as per my preferences, and the board remembered my settings.
I'm really happy that lm has someone to help with all the techy stuff on the board because I'm just astounded that she has managed this far on her own, so I will try with the new format.

If you click on each conference it pulls up bigger links. Also the mobile version has much bigger text. I'm sure an admin could go in and increase the size of the sub-board links if needed. hmmm... It does make things more compact, but it seems like it makes things harder to find. It requires more clicking, rather than scrolling, to get anywhere...I prefer the scrolling tbh. Felt like everything was out in the open that way. This way it seems like stuff is easier buried or lost. Takes longer to find what's been updated. Before I could scan down the page and see the dates for everything and what was new, now I feel like I have to remember what I'm looking for and dig.
That said, the board did seem dead with all the sections that hardly ever got updated before. I didn't realize until IM posted about the chats on tumblr that the forum was active at all, really. This way it might look more active to entice new members...not sure.
Overall I do prefer the old one, though I guess I could get used to this.

As for new post you can tap the recent post onthe bottom of the page for general new posts or the partcipated at the top of the page shows you the thread updates that you gave posted to. Confused? I was too! I dont like the mobile versionas forme the shout out box is missing! I really like seeing the chat on the board.
I agree tho the print is very tiny. I am such a fumble fingers that increasing the screen size just means frustration. I end up opening ads or going backwards. Told you i am crap at the tech stuff!

NuB, if you are on your phone and scroll to the bottom of the page there is a button that says "desktop". Just click that and you'll be able to see the shout box. You will have a hard time clicking the new links though, they are tiiiiiny.
I put this on the shoutbox, but I would personally like to have the pens board on the front page like it was before. It allowed me to see if any team/player boards were updated at a glance. I don't like being unable to see if anything has been updated unless I dig through to find it. The pens board holds almost 80% of our posts and is the main reason most people come here, considering where a lot of came from.
It's just a suggestion and I don't know if other people feel the same way. I can always just changed my bookmark, but I would hate to miss all the updates on the front page too.

The links directly under the Eastern Conference and Western conference links aren't meant to be the main links. If you click Western or Eastern it leads to bigger links. The ones under are meant to be used on a desktop and they do show up bigger on a desktop PC or Mac.
I'm still playing around with it, so nothing is set in stone. Chat boards will be moved back, I just wanted to see how it looked.

Is there any way to make to all collapsible? So if I click on Eastern Conference, it'd open all the subforms under it, but keep me on the main board, rather than taking me to a separate page for the Conference. Then if you'd cllick the Conference again, it'd collapse it back down? Would make it a lot easier, to not have to go back and forth, imo. Same thing for the teams and players.
Does that make sense?
Other suggestions: the NHL section might be nicer if it's reorganized a bit? Like 'NHL general' seems like it should certainly be first in that section, rather than half way down.
Is there any way to be able to let the shout box messages last a bit longer/ be able to scroll farther back? Maybe a day or two's worth?
Could we maybe get a place to put fanart? The thread about the hockey ponies could go there, and there's other cute art around that might be nice to share.

Unfortunately, there is no way to make the messages last longer. It is a limitation of the proboards shoutbox. It depends on the number of lines in the shoutbox when cutting it off instead of dates/times. |
